Alhoewel Saddam Hoessein aanvankelijk nog een bondgenoot kan zijn aangaande het Westen in een strijd tegen Iran (en het Westen hem ook chemische wapens levert), kan zijn de situatie jaren later volkomen anders als Amerika in 2003 Irak binnenvalt.

Een meeste Koerden bestaan religieus. Circa 90% kan zijn moslim en ook zijn heel wat Koerden jezidi's. Ons bijzonder klein deel, circa 0,03%, kan zijn christelijk en er bestaat zelfs ons korte joodse minderheid. Over deze laatste groep is sinds de onafhankelijkheid met Israël ons deel tot het land geëmigreerd.

Dit is op Bagdad en Basra na een grootste stad met Irak.[2] Een plaats telt meer dan ons miljoen inwoners en is na de invasie van Irak in 2003 opgebloeid tot een meeste welvarende stad betreffende Irak.

The area is very pleasant to walk around, as you barely see cars and you won’t experience the chaos the Middle East is famous for. 

The campaigns took place during the Iraqi–Kurdish conflict, being largely motivated by the Kurdish–Arab ethnic and political conflict. Arab settlement programs reached their peak during the late 1970s, in line with depopulation efforts ofwel the Ba'athist regime.

It was not until September 10, when an Iraqi army column was ambushed by a group of Kurds, that the Kurdish revolt truly began. In antwoord to the attack, Qasim lashed out and ordered the Iraqi Air Force to indiscriminately bomb Kurdish villages, which ultimately served to rally the entire Kurdish population to Barzani's standard. Due to Qasim's profound distrust of the Iraqi Army, which he purposely failed to adequately arm (in fact, Qasim implemented a policy ofwel ammunition rationing), Qasim's government was not able to subdue the insurrection.

Another activity to do in the area is to visit the Bekhal Waterfall. Located in the Erbil governorate, this natural wonder is a beautiful sight in the region. Surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Rawanduz, the waterfall is a must-visit since it is quite close.

Dit blijft sindsdien onrustig in de streek. Voor de Koerden in de overige landen blijft autonomie voorlopig iets dat ver weg is. Onafhankelijk betreffende mekaar bestaan een Koerdische regio’s te zwak om alleen te zijn en de overheersende landen Iran, Irak, Turkije en Syrië laten die strategische regio’s ook niet ineens kunnen.

Although the pressure for Kurds to assimilate was less intense in Iraq, where the Kurdish language and culture have been freely practiced, government repression has been the most brutal. Short-lived armed rebellions occurred in Iraq in 1931–32 and 1944–45, and a low-level armed insurgency took place throughout the 1960s under the command ofwel Mustafa alang-Barzani, leader of the Iraqi Kurdish Democratic Party (IKDP), who had been an officer ofwel the Republic ofwel Mahābād. A failed peace accord with the Iraqi government led to another outbreak of fighting in 1975, but Best Kurdish an agreement between Iraq and Iran—which had been supporting Kurdish efforts—later that year led to a collapse of Kurdish resistance. Thousands ofwel Kurds fled to Iran and Turkey. Low-intensity fighting followed.
